“Recess is good” sounds like a no-brainer to me, too.

(Even if I tended to spend mine in the library after about 4th grade.)

The more recess the better! Ideally, in nice weather children ought to be spending much of the day outdoors, and in all but the hottest, coldest and stormiest, they ought to be out for at least an hour or two. Not that they need to be just milling around aimlessly all the time, nor playing chase-the-ball team games either - it's much easier to teach children while walking around looking at interesting things with them than while standing up in front of a classroom as they fidget in their little seats.
