Is it wrong of me to make a rule "no goggles at the dinner table"?

Their goggles have these holographic eyes, and it's REALLY creeping me out. I almost regret buying those specifically, but I knew the nieces would adore them. Now, though, I know why they're going to be the only ones in their class with that specific style....

Yeah, it is wrong - the standard rule is, "No toys of any kind at the table during any meal."

We have a "no books, seriously, I mean it" rule (one which my very own sister, their mother flaunts, which makes it damn hard to enforce, believe me), but I wouldn't put goggles in the category of toys. They're clothing. For swimming.

I might just insist that they have to stay with the bathing suits so as to not get lost. It's a good rule - if I have to buy another $10 swim cap and it's my fault again I'm docking their allowance anyway.

Edit: Flouts. Obviously, she flouts the rule, and then flaunts that she's flouting it.

Sounds reasonable enough to me. Goggles aren't part of "normal" house dress, so you don't wear them for "normal" house occasions like meals. Just as they (presumably?) wouldn't wear flippers or hard hats at the dinner table.

Only because they don't have flippers or hard hats. Hell, they argued strenuously that goggles ARE normal house dress!
