When we're talking about losers with no life, the ones I think of immediately are the ones with nothing better to entertain them than thoughts of how pathetic other people are.

People like that are fucked. I have to deal with everyday the fact that most people really like a bunch of stuff I have no interest in. I think what's happening here is that these people honestly never had to give two thoughts to the fact that zounds, other people are not like them! and this forces them to, and they're reacting with the predictable stupidity.

It's a certain provincialism that comes with privilege.

I was with you until you said this was about privilege. What on earth does thinking people running around with brooms is silly have to do with privilege? I genuinely don't get it. You have no idea if the commentators are privileged or not.

It's not the thinking it's silly that's privileged, it's the assumption that if the speaker thinks an activity is silly, complete strangers who enjoy that activity should care. Their relatives and friends may care, because someone who thinks an activity is silly isn't likely to enjoy accompanying them. However, part of being a decent adult is just saying "no thanks" or "that isn't my thing" (whether "that" is quidditch or baseball or knitting or, really, anything that isn't unethical) rather than attacking someone for enjoying different games.

Oh and speaking of Quidditch, have you seen this article about gender equality in Quidditch (http://www.themarysue.com/muggle-quidditch-gender-equality/)? What impressed me is that I had no idea there was an International Quidditch Association!

A lot of the shit comments are obviously by people from other schools. They don't really have anything against HP or quidditch, they're just using this as another in the long line of excuses to put down a rival school.
