I'm not really sure what happened on the 11th.

Mostly these people just want emergency backups, so really, you shouldn't make too much of it.

I did as I usually do in times like this, and went back through the old posts in the codesharing comm, combing them for still-usable codes. Then I made a big post with over 250 of them. Now I'm down to 30.

There's a huge list of codes here, but many of them are taken right now as well, and it's no longer on the first (or second, or third) page of posts.

And the people who normally hang around here and give codes to people requesting them seem to have run out of invite codes already.

So, if you have an invite code for Dreamwidth, and you have nowhere to spend it, do a favor? Send one to one of the people asking for one?

Thanks for the encouragement! I recently got one code and didn't want to make a whole new post to the comm offering it up, and hadn't got anyone else in mind to send it to, so now I picked someone from that entry!

The importer for LJ was shut down for the 11th because so many import jobs from LJ were failing. The newbyday stat includes OpenID accounts created during imports for access lists and assigning to comments and whatnot.

Easier to look at the spike of activity in some other way, which would include people coming back to fallow accounts they haven't touched in a month and new accounts, for instance comparing (just after 12AM) 3/31/2011 to 4/13/2011 (two weeks apart to the day, so it's a better comparison than different days, since activity varies through the week):

3/31/2011
# That are active in some way: 20616
# That have posted an entry in last 30 days: 18448
# That have posted an entry in the last 7 days: 12341
# That have posted an entry in the last 24 hours: 5690

4/13/2011
# That are active in some way: 29685 (44% increase)
# That have posted an entry in last 30 days: 22633 (22.6% increase)
# That have posted an entry in the last 7 days: 16311 (32.2% increase)
# That have posted an entry in the last 24 hours: 6847 (20.3% increase)

I wandered over to Dreamwidth, and was invited to log in with "OpenID". It turned out that this meant my LJ account. Done - no invite code needed. Not that I've posted anything there as yet, but the account and profile is set up.

Ah, thanks, that saves me the trouble of experimenting.

On the 11th, I think LJ started functioning normally again. So probably many people were busy using LJ and didn't have time to migrate until a day later... ;)
