I'm glad I did. They're fun books but, more importantly, it led me to check out the author's website (the one listed in the books does NOT work, you'll have to google for it) and she's incredibly linktastic. So, since I'm still a week behind in my posts....

Here's an article about child vampire hunters in 1954. The part about the schoolchildren heading out to the cemetery with sharp objects reminded me uncannily of this story.

You can order from Galco's. Huell Howser did a show about it (http://www.calgold.com/visiting/Default.asp?Series=1600&Show=980) a couple of weeks ago. He was amazed to find some of his old favorites from when he was a child in Tennessee.

I am pretty sure there is still such a thing as a purple carrot. Believe it or not, I learned this through playing Farmville, and I Googled them to find out if they were real. The owner of my favourite restaurant has jokingly offered to prepare me a meal consisting exclusively of purple foods, and I've been doing some research to find out what foods come in purple besides eggplant and grapes. So far I've discovered purple potatoes, purple asparagus and purple carrots. Oh, and so-called red onions, which are actually purple.

Did you remember "red" cabbage (which, like red onions, is purple) and the various purple berries - blackberries, black currents, blueberries?

I forgot about red cabbage. Blueberries are iffy, as they appear blue but the juice is purple. Foods made with blueberries are purple, like blueberry cheesecake. Same with blackberries. I've never seen actual blackcurrants, but I love blackcurrant tea.

Some day I want to make a rainbow meal, where every main component of the meal is naturally in a rainbow colour (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple), and all the rainbow colours are included. The colour I imagine would be hardest is blue.
