My sister and I came to an agreement.

SHE would take time out of her day on Saturday to retrieve the books from her office, and *I* would take the nieces to the library on Sunday to return them. The big library, because our local branch is now closed on Sundays due to budget cuts.
This is not the solution I wanted (that solution involved more suffering on her part), but it's acceptable.
I love taking them to the library, of course. ANY library, but the big library is a special treat. Their kid section is stuffed to the gills. Really! And I take them in, and they just plop down with a pile of books each and they're happy for hours.
I took out a bunch of wordless books to read with Evangeline, because I've been meaning to do that, and now that she can read a little she no longer seems offended by the implication that she, well, can't, which is what used to annoy her about wordless books. I'll review them all soon for that whole picture book challenge - I'm aiming for a post a week, because, you know... prizes.
And Ana took out Rapunzel's Revenge. And refused to put it down, commenting "At least this Rapunzel saves herself. I'm so tired of princes doing all the rescuing!" (And no, I didn't prompt her in any way!) I know that doesn't sound like very enthusiastic enthusiasm, but Ana's always a little wary about looking too excited about something. I know the feeling, actually. I also know that she chose this one over Audrey's Big Secret, which is brand new to her and which she's been itching to read for two weeks (she re-read Audrey of the Outback last week and then read Audrey Goes to Town twice in two days), so... she can't fool me!
No library tomorrow (MLK's birthday), so it's just as well we went today.
