Let's say you have a favorite movie, or book, or episode of a TV show. When you open it up again, do you watch/read the whole thing, or do you dip in and and mostly stick to your favorite parts? (Obviously I mean mostly, not always.)

I think I'm most likely to dive in somewhere in the middle (often but not always a favourite part) and then read straight on, not just sticking to favourite parts - possibly to the end, possibly not. The better I know a book the less likely I am to start at the beginning.

I don't think I've ever read the entirety of any book from start to finish longer than 50 pages, new or favourite or otherwise. :S

Depends on the mood I'm in, how much time I have, and why I'm rereading/rewatching. (If I do the "sampling" frequently, I have a tendency to make sure I reread/rewatch the entire thing at some point.)

With TV shows and movies (on DVD) I re-watch my favourite parts. With books I reread the whole thing.

I think it depends. Usually in my first readthrough of any book, I tend to skip over certain sections in the first place. No matter how much I love it, I will have never read the entire thing first time around... or even after several rereads. Sometimes, it's not until the hundredth reread or so that I finally get to the parts I missed.

For example, when I recently reread Jurassic Park (which I first read back in 1994 or thereabouts), I finally read the parts that mainly featured Gennaro, as well as the epilogue-ish stuff towards the end of the book (not explaining it here for it would be spoilery). Until then, I'd mostly just focused on Dr. Grant and the kids, and Arnold and the computer system, and Nedry, and Muldoon. But once I read the parts I missed, the whole thing FINALLY came together for me.

Whole thing nearly always. Occasionally I'll just watch my favorite parts of movies. TV episodes are usually too short to make skipping around worthwhile.

Neither! I randomly open it and start reading wherever. And sometimes when I get to a part I am not in that moment so interested in re-reading (maybe even a favorite part I've read to death) I'll randomly open the book somewhere else.

It really depends. Sometimes I go back and read/watch the favorite parts, sometimes I read/watch straight from the beginning. It depends if I want to relive favorite bits or if I'm reading/watching to catch things I've missed, or if I want continuity.

Lately I've been doing both with my latest obsession, Velvet Goldmine.

Movies, books, and TV episodes I enjoy as wholes. Series I rewatch my favorite parts, generally, but sometimes rewatch arcs or rewatch the whole thing (rarely, more often if I'm showing it to someone else).

With TV shows we sometimes just watch a favorite episode, though really the only time we re-watch bits is when someone is over and we want to try to hook them. Books, however, I only read in whole unless it's poetry.
