When somebody takes more than one penny from the take-a-penny plate..

Do you:

1. Ignore it (assuming you even noticed in the first place)
2. Laugh and point out that it's take a penny, singular.
3. Flip out, remove the plate, and then post about your near aneurysm.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but I think I'm not going over the line when I say that reaction is unhealthy. I've never heard of anybody even caring before, much less getting angry about it! If you get so upset about $0.02, how on earth do you manage with real problems? I don't get so upset over the news, and this person is furious because somebody took THREE pennies instead of ONE.

This sort of thing always looks like misassignment of pent up anger to me. I'm always tempted to assume my mock-therapist's pose and ask blandly, "what is it you're really angry about?"

Satire is one thing. . . but this person was not joking.

I work cash register, and I will take up to four pennies out of there if I don't want to deal with the change and if it is a nice regular. Gasp! The horrors!

They're take a penny, leave a penny. So if you get some pennies in change, and you don't want them in your pocket, you dump them in the jar... and if you need a few pennies to avoid getting change, you take from the jar.
