My MIL got $50K from her parents' estate and invested it in Colombian securities promising 27% returns OR MORE. My boss (a financial advisor) advised her not to do it but she did anyway, and now it's gone. They don't think it actually went into securities but think it was a Ponzi scheme too. Their friend who got them into it lost way more and is suing, but hasn't been successful yet.
