It's cheesy and corny, sure, but I like it.

Mostly.

This time they have a dead body in a garbage chute. How do they find it? Some girl tried to put a pizza box in it. The cops come, they talk about the event, we even see a picture of the sign on the chute - NO RECYCLABLES.

In NYC, you have to recycle your glass, metal, plastic, and paper. It's the law, and it has been since I moved to Staten Island, some 16, 17 years ago. I just went online and checked - yup, on the little fliers they hand out every school year, it says pizza boxes are recyclables. You can get a ticket for this!

And here's these cops, and last episode they just had a budget cut, and they don't say anything? Don't they have a quota? (Of course they have a quota, everybody knows they have a quota!) Oh, I know - they're homicide. Listen, dead bodies aren't recyclable. You don't get a ticket for that. You get a ticket for not recycling your pizza boxes.

*sighs*

Ignorance.

Here in California (my area, at least) we do not recycle pizza boxes. Pizza boxes like many other food-containing paper products are green waste. They go in the green bin to be composted. I love composting so long as it happens far away from me and I am barely involved.

Pizza Boxes

While you are right that pizza boxes are listed as recyclables most should not be because the oils from the pizza actually prevent it from being recyclable. Even with the wax paper and tin foil they place in the box, oil still stains the box preventing much of it from being recycled. They don't mention that on your school fliers but this is a fact that I've learned from an article about the realities of recycling. One could always cut away the offending section and recycle the rest of the box, but that would just be a waist of time and probably defeats the reason why you ordered a pizza to begin with.

Also, unless you live in a home where the police or sanitation dept. can clearly see you are not recycling, there is no way a person who does not recycle is going to get a ticket. And since they did not see her put the box in the trash, they cannot fine her.

....they put waxed paper and/or tinfoil in pizza boxes? (Not around here, it's just pizza-on-cardboard.)

And (to conuly), what DO you put in the trash, anyway--compost and ashes?
