Fairly interesting, but the real attraction is at the link in the article.

GoTopless

See, you're reading along about history, and equality, and toplessness, and we've got some pictures and it's all well and good until suddenly, apropos of nothing, we get:

Who can participate? We welcome everyone! GoTopless was founded by the Raelian Movement, which recognizes that life on Earth was created by advanced extraterrestrial scientists. These scientists, both male and female, used their mastery of genetic engineering to create humans in their own image (breasts included!). GoTopless includes thousands of women and men, who have a wide variety of beliefs, affiliations, etc...

Right. Well, I cherish the right of all people to believe what they want to believe. I suppose randomly stating your belief that humans were created by aliens is, in fact, no weirder than if the same site had randomly stated that they're members of any more conventional faith. (Which just goes to show that there's a time and a place. Not everything needs to be linked to your religion.)

This is them. I don't think I'm converting any time soon, but then, I'm also not converting to any older and more established belief systems. In 500 years, who knows what people will think?

It's only in the last ten years that public breastfeeding has become legally protected here in Oklahoma. Before that it was possible you'd get thrown in the clink for feeding your kid.

Why do the Raelians ring a bell?

They're interested in human cloning, and made a big stir a few years back by claiming they had successfully cloned a human being. Such claims have not been substantiated, but that didn't stop them from generating a lot of press.

You're so awesome! While we're at it, where did I leave my keys?

(thanks!)

The Raelians are crazy, but I'll take them over Scientologists any day.

Oh... not the Raelians (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ra%C3%ABlism), for god's sake. *thud*

Listen, those people get into everything, and have done so for thirty-five years. Jacques Vallee did a big expose on them in his book Messengers of Deception.

Wait, isn't it already legal for women to go topless in NY?

Oh, ok. I didn't read it through. I thought you were saying they were going to protest for the right, and I was thinking that was pretty pointless, considering. :-p

The article is interesting indeed. I'm all for the legality of female toplessness. But I'm not surprised that other women gave her a hard time for it-- women are always nastier than men about another woman's appearance.
