I actually had them in my head, most of them, I just... didn't feel up to typing anything.

Did I mention my uncle's collection of knives he carefully hides around his bed like teddy bears? EVERY YEAR we have to go take them out of the room when we visit because, y'know, the kids sleep there. The first year (when Ana was, like, 2 and could REALLY not be trusted) he didn't even tell us! Boy, was that a shock.

What gets me is the fact that his knives? Outnumber his hands. He's got seven or eight knives for two hands - four if is girlfriend is there. (He should also move his, uh, supplies out of the room. I assume they have sex, but I don't want to think about it! And for that matter, when you go online to find instructions to a place that makes your "wildest fantasies come true", it's only polite to close the window when you're done printing. I take one glance - ew.) After four knives, therefore, it follows that he's basically just giving knives to the intruder, especially as they aren't exactly well-hidden.

Who *does* that? It's not exactly the brightest move, is it?

Maybe he's taken up the fine art of knife-throwing, so he can pin the intruder to the door with a few well-aimed tosses.

That is a bit overkill. I am used to the one sword per room and one sword at each side of the bed as a general maximum unless extra swords are decorative. And some of those swords are actually wooden practice swords. Yes, this does give a sword to the intruder, but the odds are low that the intruder has actually regularly practiced with a sword. So, if it's sword against sword, that's still an edge. And if it's sword against knife, that's good. If it's a gun, well, you don't have to menace an intruder.

I do kind of get wanting to have a weapon close at hand. Mainly it's a psychological thing. It can help you sleep better. Much as I often like to sleep with my bedroom door locked. I don't do that so much anymore, but I used to, even when I was in situations where I didn't need it as a safety issue. I also like to sleep with the door closed, which is partly psychological and partly that it gives you slightly better odds in a fire as it can act as a bit of a fire break while the alarms wake you up.

The main issue is nto the knives, or the locations he chooses to store them, but the fact that there will be *young children* visiting sleeping in that bed and he does not bother to MOVE the knives. Or even think to tell us they are there!

I feel quite assured that you would not allow 3 and 6 year old kids to sleep next to the swords without *at a minimum* informing the parents. :-)

Oh certainly. When I had young nephews visiting we only had the one sword and I had it in the bedroom and locked the bedroom door. Why take chances?

Perhaps he is a wild sleeper, and each knife is placed where he is likely to have a hand should he awaken to an intruder? IDK, I didn't see the placements.

It's not exactly the brightest move, is it?

IIRC, from family stories, he's not exactly the brightest bulb in the box, right? One can't expect smart-moves (especially concerning kids from someone with none!) from someone who isn't exactly all there.
