You just watch. When I come down with the same thing that took Jenn and Ana out, and I say "Hey, I think I'll just stay here in bed and BE SICK all day", all of a sudden it won't be "this illness makes child-watching unbearable" but "OMG! I HAVE TO GO TO WORK!" and I *still* won't get a day off.
We played Duck, Duck, Bruce in the afternoon. (I'm a calm and a reasonable person. REALLY.) The whole thing with this game is that you don't want to draw so many cards that you lose them all. The first several times I played with them, I carefully explained my strategy each turn, and when I finished I'd say "I'd better quit while I'm ahead".
1. The children have a real knack for predicting when the losing card will turn up in another person's turn. It's spooky.
2. They don't understand the phrase "quit while I'm ahead". I mean, they get what it means, but Ana thinks it's "quit ahead" and Evangeline thinks it's "quit in my head".
