Okay....

Today, on a bit of a whim (and a bit of foresight, really, Ana always has the worst chapped lips and when *my* lips get chapped I just pick at them so I do need to avoid that....), I picked up a value pack of Burt's Bees lip balms.

I got a little tin of lip balm and three lipstick containers. One minty, one honey-y, and one pomegranate-y.

Okay, so they all taste a little different, that's cool.

Except then I realized that the mint lip balm is "Soothing, Cooling, Refreshing", and the honey one is "Soothing, Moisturizing, Nourishing", and the pomegranate one is "Soothing, Nourishing, Hydrating".

What the hell?

I thought you could choose between lip balms filled with icky petroleum products, lip balms filled with beeswax, and vegan lip balms. And that once you'd made that important choice, everything else (how it tastes) is just decoration.

But now they're trying to tell me that different lip balms do different things? That they have different roles to play?

This doesn't make my life easier, people! Am I expected to carefully think about what my lips need before I smear some lip balm on them? Ponder this choice? I wasn't planning on using any more thought than "Eeny, Meeny, Miney, Moe"! I DON'T NEED THIS!

Ugh. It's almost enough to make me use Chapstick... but the petroleum...!

Edit: On second thought, the mint lip balm doesn't contain "fragrance" and the other two *do*. This explains why Ana's most recent lip balm (the pomegranate) and the honey lip balm have seemed so... lingering to me. "Fragrance" tends to do that, and I prefer to not have it right under my nose. I'll stick with the mint for me, and use the other two for Ana and Evangeline.

The mint is better. Softer too, imo. Well, I haven't tried the pom, but I did not like the honey.

I like the minty one best. It's just more tingly and makes my lips feel better then the others.

If you have VERY CHAPPED LIPS, you DO NOT WANT the mint one. Ow, ow, OW! Tingly isn't exactly the word....

I suppose this is the wrong time to tell you that Chapstick has a "natural" lip balm made with beeswax, shea butter, and mango butter ....well, read the ingredients yourself (http://www.chapstick.com/natural/label_lipbutter.asp). No nasty petroleum there.

Well, I'm glad to hear it, but I oppose anything made with mangoes on the principle that they taste disgusting.

They do. (As a kid, I had bad bronchitis one year and had to take this awful medicine that smelled JUST LIKE mango Snapple. Seriously. Ruined the fruit for me forever.)

Mangoes aren't bland, anyway. I wonder what sort of mango you got, because whatever I can say of them, they do have a lot of flavor. Just... not one I like.

I've worked with mango butter. Mango butter doesn't, as far as I can tell, smell or taste like mango. Cocoa butter does smell like white chocolate though (not surprisingly) unless you buy the deoderized cocoa butter, in which case it doesn't. I wonder if mango butter is routinely deoderized or whether it varies. But the mango butter I had didn't seem mangoey to me.

I go through lip balm phases. All throughout high school, I was using Natural Ice cherry flavor, then I couldn't find the cherry flavor anymore. I didn't like the original flavor. In college, a friend got me into Burt's Bees, by buying me the mint lip balm. I still have that, but now I'm on to My Lip Stuff (http://www.mylipstuff.com/), which I found through a friend on LJ. I have something like 40 tubes of that stuff, so I'll be on it for a while!
