Date: 2008-09-01 04:02 am (UTC)I don't know about intelligence being the defining factor of whether or not we should care about an animal, but I do believe that they're not very well suited for their life. They're in fact walking proof of the theory of stupid design.
I mean, an animal whose diet is 99% bamboo but yet cannot digest bamboo and which still has the digestive system of a carnivore? Which, even in good times, had a severely restricted range? Which has a baby 1/880th of its size?
That's not exactly screaming "Evolutionary Success Story" to me. (Cockroaches, now....)
