Yeah, the baby panda died.

Which is too bad, although I maintain that pandas are too stupid to spend all the money it takes to breed them in captivity.

I don't know about intelligence being the defining factor of whether or not we should care about an animal, but I do believe that they're not very well suited for their life. They're in fact walking proof of the theory of stupid design.

I mean, an animal whose diet is 99% bamboo but yet cannot digest bamboo and which still has the digestive system of a carnivore? Which, even in good times, had a severely restricted range? Which has a baby 1/880th of its size?

That's not exactly screaming "Evolutionary Success Story" to me. (Cockroaches, now....)

Yeah, they think the baby either wasn't feeding properly or that the mother crushed it or asphyxiated it.

I don't think we shouldn't care about pandas, in fact, if we cared about them a little more we wouldn't have to spend the ridiculous amounts of money it takes to raise and breed them in captivity.
