Two short Eva-cdotes

Friday, we were going to go to drumming circle, so I made dinner to take. Then I heard it was going to rain until midnight, so we didn't go. It didn't rain. *sigh*
I'd made ratatouille. We had squash and eggplant and lots of tomatoes, so it seemed the thing. My mom was eating with us, and we told Evangeline she should eat more of her ratatouille before she got more bread.
Evangeline: But wa is it?
Us: Why is it ratatouille? That's just what it's called.
Evangeline: No, where is it?
Us: It's on your plate.
Evangeline: But where is it?
Us: Right in front of you...?
Evangeline: But I don't see it!
Us: Uh... it's right there.
Evangeline: But what is it?
Eventually we figured out that she meant "what part of all this food can be definitively identified as the ratatouille part", and we explained that ratatouille is what we call it when it's all mixed up together.
Evangeline: Oh.
For dessert last night, I made apricots cooked in margarine with brown sugar and cinnamon. This is something my family has been making since forever, except usually with apples. I'm not even sure it counts as a *recipe*, though I may submit it as a recipe to my CSA anyway.
Quite delicious, and all three adults made a very bad example by eating the sauce right out of the skillet!
As I was cooking, Evangeline happened to ask what I was making.
Me: Food.
Her: AGAIN?
Me: Yup.
Her: I don't yike food again. I don't want food.
Me: Okay.
Ana showed up at my door a half hour or so ago, crying. After confirming that she wasn't having a time-out, I hugged her and brought her back upstairs. She thought her mom and my mom were laughing at her because she hurt her knee, and it had hurt her feelings.
Turns out, she hurt her knee while rocking, and Jenn and my mom giggled a little while trying to help her figure out a way to do that without hurting herself.
Apologies were handed out all around, and I couldn't disentangle myself from the girl for ages.
Not that funny, but eh.
