I know you're all ready to kill me for spamming your friends pages, but I can't believe I forgot to post this.

As I was going up the escalator to the downtown side at Bowling Green today, I suddenly hear the tunnel fill up with horrified screams. I actually understood for the first time how the story of the banshee started. And I keep going up, and hear "somebody fell onto the tracks". What? "Somebody fell onto the tracks!"

Oh. Damn. Now I'm torn between:

Concern for the woman who'd fallen
Worry about seeing gory stuff
Worry about being late/losing a fare
Guilt for the last feeling.

I finally make my way upstairs, and all is well. She had done the stupid thing of leaning over the edge, which is how she fell, but the train stopped without really entering the station, and everyone was all right. And it was the uptown track anyway, so no delay for me! Aside from which, even late, I was the first one to Latin... bunch of lazy bums, all of 'em!

An average of two people each year are killed by strangers pushing them onto the (electrified) track on the London Underground...there's your depressing fact for the day. Even if there's no train there, if you fall on the track and land on the correct rail, you're basically dead. And even if you avoid the track- one woman fell off an escalator at Heathrow station when I was last there and was sitting there in a pool of blood...yeah, be careful *shudders*

Jeez, what an awful way to go- stuck in a hole with the train coming after you *shiver*. Why the hell was she leaning anyway? Stupid, stupid, stupid. Man, that scared me though.
