I hate to be political. Honest. I really, truly, prefer posting just about stuff like my family (Ana and Seth were playing peek-a-boo with each other today!) or school (Wednesday, I managed to get my Latin class to sing "The Farmer in the Dell"... they're such geeks)or silly jokes. But the real world will interfere in my pleasant daydreams....

A Palestinian boy died, and both sides are refusing to take responsibility. Really, I doubt his family much cares if he was killed by accident while Palestinians were shooting at an army vehicle or by accident while Israelis were shooting at stone-throwers... he was seven years old, and he's dead, and they both have to accept responsibility for this fact. I know life isn't as simple as "just stop shooting!" but the fact is, war is two ways. Trust me, the Palestinians aren't throwing rocks and shooting at army vehicles and becoming suicide bombers because they think it's just fun. And of course, the Israelis don't have somewhat universal military service because they like to spend money on the military. And because both sides are fighting, and nobody is apparently willing to actually stop fighting (correct me if I'm wrong, because that's a very depressing thought), people die, and nobody is even willing to accept the blame. *curses loudly*

In more news, "It might be appropriate in certain situations, but a child of this age shouldn't have a choice." I don't even know what that means, but it sounds bad. Children can't have choices? Children are too stupid to understand the concept of love? Children should be completely sheltered from the real world, and then have everything dumped on them when they turn 18? What? Yes, your six year old will be absolutely traumitized to find out that gay isn't a curse word. "I was flabbergasted," Hartsell said. "My child is not old enough to understand something like that, especially when it is not in our beliefs." Well, MY child isn't old enough to understand about ignorance, so can you please stop imposing YOUR views on MY family? Kthxbye.

I swear, there is something very wrong in this country when, with death and destruction all over the place, people allow themselves to get worked up over... diversity? Gay people in a book?

Your avatar inspired me to ask... Have you seen Clone Wars? Or do you not have a clue what I'm talking about?

Now I really want to go out and read that book.

Darth Maul makes yur life flash before your eyes...except all it was was a few cups of tea and almost getting shagged. I think?

I had a huge argument with a friend this week over whether gay people should hold hands in front of children. She said they shouldn't because "then they'd think it was alright"

Well that's a stupid response. What's wrong with thinking that something that is right is right?

Darth Maul kicks ass either way.

I think she then said that the children would copy, to which I said that people would probably just think it was cute.

It would be the funniest thing if her little brother actually did turn out to be gay...she's all tolerant and everything, but has this "as long as it's not my family" attitude.

I think parents try too hard to cloister their children, which leads to so many of the problems we see today. So maybe homosexuality is against your belief system, then explain it to your kids, don't shelter them and act like it doesn't exist, believe it or not, kids do listen. And people wonder why there is so much gay prejudice, because so many kids are unexposed and when they see it for the first time the reaction is "Oh, that's just wrong!"

To be honest, I'm amazed a book like that even made into a library in North Carolina. Especially Wilmington. They're not exactly known for their liberal outlook on life. Wonder why I didn't hear about that mess on the local news...
