As many of you know, I delight in pointing out other people on LJ who are stupid.

Whether or not they are stupid is a matter of some debate, but please, don't take it personally if I think you are, that just means you are like the rest of the world.

Now, some of these people... okay, many of them... have less than perfect spelling in the original source. Whether or not I commented on the spelling to them or in my rantling, it's amazing how it improves when they head over here to complain about me to my face. Apparently, having your intelligence questioned makes you self-conscious.

There's a point here, and it's NOT "let's insult these people all over again". My point is that even those I've called out for being stupid, rightly or wrongly, understand that spelling makes an impression and that the worst way to appear intelligent is to forget that. So, why, dear god why, do other people insist it's wrong to judge them for using teh dreddud chtspk?

I think it depends on how anal you are about it. I abhor it, but if someone just has occasional errors now and then I'll let it slide. Of course, with the spell check option I'm tempted not.

I am baffled by those people who think it's alright to talk like that all the time because "it's easier". Well yes, cheating is easier than learning, stealing can be easier than earning, etc, etc. Arg.

If it's just a typo, I won't even mention it. If it's an actual spelling mistake, and I figure you aren't a silly, I'll bring it up because I assume you'll want to know for the future. If I think you're stupid, AND you fill up your space with chtspk or other deliberate errors, I may not mention it to you (grammarwhoring always leads to ad hominems) but it WILL go in any and all posts I make in my own journal.
