Oh, I didn't believe it when I heard! I'm so excited! Today. Today is... it's... (oh, this is just too cool) it's...

National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day!!!!!

Are you aware that you can make a really cool sandwich with peanut butter and jelly? (And some bread, if you insist, though they taste just fine without the frills.) Go make yourself a sandwich! And enjoy it!

(It's also Worldwide Autism Awareness Day or something, but I think everybody reading this is aware that autism exists, yeah? In honor of *that* occasion, go read Kanner's original paper on the subject, and (in the comments) his follow-up years later. It's nothing if not instructive.)

I've always preferred the direct spoon method myself, or at least for peanut butter. Jam's a bit too sweet for that.

You know, I've known several people on the spectrum but I've never actually had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

THAT is what I'm going to have for dinner! I was feeling lazy after scrubbing the apartment and had almost resolved not to eat!

See, this is why I love your posts.

I was going to post an autism-related post every day for the month, but promptly decided not to after realizing it'd get very old very fast.)

(Also, I'm a fan of peanut butter and Nutella myself.)

You know the city of Boston was gonna ban Fluffernutter sandwiches (that's what PB&Fluff is called there, and I guess elsewhere, but that's what my family who grew up there called it) from schools? As in, parents couldn't pack them for kids to eat?

I can't say I have. I'll have to try it sometime.

Really. Until I was an adult, I'd also never had macaroni and cheese, canned tuna, twinkies, or egg salad, to name a few North American staples. In my house, growing up, jam went on toast and peanut butter went with banana when in sandwich form, and never the twain did meet. Mind, in my defence, grape jelly really isn't as ubiquitous in Canada as it is in the States - I've never tried that on its own either.

Still, I shall have to try some now that I've been made Aware. Though I have to admit, the idea of jam/jelly seeping into untoasted bread seems kind of icky.

Probably because of peanut allergies. Lots of schools are peanut butter free now.

If it was, it wasn't mentioned in the articles I read. They were all about saving the kids from the evils of marshmallow fluff.

Well the heck with 'em then! Up with fluffernutters!

Up with fluff!

Did you know that if you buy a can of Fluff (that was presumably filled in Mass.) and bring it up to about 9000 feet above sea level and then open it, it just keeps on expanding?

So cool.

(We made fluff smores once because of a fire ban.)

I actually made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich this morning, before ever seeing this post. Freaky!

(It's 100%-peanuts peanut butter, too - it's amazing how many brands have added sugar.)
