My mom was always very frugal and practical, and sought to impress that upon me with lessons about price comparison and the checking of fine print. My father liked to point out the obvious scams in commercials because it made him look smart, especially to a young kid. Eventually it became a sort of game where we'd ask each other 'what aren't they saying there?'
