HOLY MOTHER OF FUCK.

We've been having a thunderstorm for the past few hours, I guess. It woke me up a bit (but not enough for me to actually wake up and close my damn windows) until 6:26 when all I heard was BANG... BANG.

I woke right up, looked out the window, observed the freaky somewhat greenish sky, and went to ask my mom if she'd heard that. Then I went back, closed the windows, found my glasses, and put a shirt on.

Couldn't sleep, everybody was talking too loudly. Seems there were some trees down, maybe a power line....

Or, maybe all the trees on the block and several power lines down right in front of our house.

And maybe, up until about ten, fifteen minutes ago, Staten Island was under a tornado warning. Brooklyn still is under a tornado warning, and may have actually had a tornado, and we think that we were hit by a tornado.

This is what the warning for Brooklyn says:

...A TORNADO WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 700 AM EDT FOR KINGS COUNTY...

AT 634 AM...WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR CONTINUED TO INDICATE A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A TORNADO. THIS TORNADO WAS LOCATED NEAR FLATBUSH...MOVING EAST AT 35 MPH.

WHEN A TORNADO WARNING IS ISSUED BASED ON DOPPLER RADAR...IT MEANS THAT STRONG ROTATION HAS BEEN DETECTED IN THE STORM. A TORNADO MAY ALREADY BE ON THE GROUND...OR IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP SHORTLY. IF YOU ARE IN THE PATH OF THIS DANGEROUS STORM...MOVE INDOORS AND TO THE LOWEST LEVEL OF THE BUILDING. STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS. IF DRIVING...DO NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER A HIGHWAY OVERPASS.

HEAVY RAINFALL MAY OBSCURE THIS TORNADO. TAKE COVER NOW! IF YOU WAIT TO SEE OR HEAR IT COMING...IT MAY BE TOO LATE TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE

We are *so* lucky. And we even have power.

Edit: And the fact that the wind and rain dropped immediately after all this happened is just serving to creep me out. Clearly, this is the eye of the storm, and it is watching us.

Holy fuck! It never got that bad or loud here on the South Shore. Just heavy rain. The lightning during Friday night's storm was much worse.

The radar is clear for SI. Not an eye, all over. Gonna give my mom a call. She's working in Bklyn. I think it will be a bit before she gets home.

Friday was the worst I can ever remember.

I stayed up all last night watching the storm. Kept yelling at the sky "is that all you got?" Then the rains came down, the street and sidewalk flooded. I bid my NYTimes "Bon Voyage!" as it floated away to parts unknown.

This is like the second or third time we've had tornados. I remember the one that skipped along Hylan Blvd. We were shopping in Cangianos and had such a hard time getting people away from the BIG PLATE GLASS WINDOWS. Another one touched down in BullsHead (I was in a basement class at CSI luckily).

Freaky, freaky weather. I'd rather have hurricanes. You know when they're coming and can prepare. This shit is nerve wracking!

Tornadoes aren't all that uncommon - every few years we get a couple on Staten Island.

What gets <>me is the way all these storms are in the morning. That does not strike me as normal for thunderstorms, for some reason.

Our thunderstorms are always in the afternoon/evening, yes - but of course, Utah has a very different climate.

I barely slept during the storm. I saw lots of lightening and heard thunder and did I mention could not sleep! I actually went to school oh why you ask. Because SI was the only borough to be running normally. Got to school at 8:55am (the train was slow and only the N train was running). Getting home, don't even bother to ask me how that went. Took me FOREVER! *sigh*

I didn't hear about the Tornado until I got to school
