On What Just Happened.

(However, all her comments are here, even though the rant is less complete.)

Is any of this true? I don't know, and would really appreciate more information. But it sure is interesting.

Also, if the fandom counting comm struck you as a good idea, you may also be interested in [livejournal.com profile] fandompays.

Edit again: Now there's people talking about buying up lots and lots of SA/LJ stock themselves. I wish them luck, though, again, not sure this is really going to work. It certainly won't work until somebody organizes this shit.

I'd read the shorter LJ version. Thanks for linking to the longer rant. The biggest piece of the puzzle is Siz Apart wanting to go public. Of that I hadn't heard before but it makes perfect sense.

It's interesting something I heard in a lock post from someone who is a survivor of sexual abuse/incest/child abuse.

One particularly loud person, who goes around in suvivor communities bragging about watching child porn and other things like that, was reinstated.

Makes me wonder what the criteria for reinstatement was.

And I'm still annoyed about the BFing icons. :(

Well I have in the comments of the news stories, when I can get things to load.

I'm not a member of any BFing communities, but I posted about it in my LJ too. So hopefully the BFers will get on this, and soon. You can lead a horse to water, and all that...

Thanks for the link. Did some reading into the Six Apart IPO, and it looks like they've had that in the works for some time, but were waiting until they had more (active) users. (For all that they like to throw around the "We have 13 million users!" only about 8-10% of that are actually active.) From what I can see, the logic makes sense. SA wants to go public, tries to clean up, goes about it the wrong way, and guess what, fandom's gonna kill ya.

(I'm still considering getting stock in SA, provided they still go public after this fiasco, if only because, given LJ's popularity, I think it could be a good investment in the short term. Long term? We'll see, and I think that will be dependent in large part on the nature of new users and the general nature of fandom.)

Considering when I was an active RPer, I had... (hang on, need to count)

Okay, considering when I was an active RPer, I had 13 accounts in addition to this one, yes, I think that number is blown wildly out of proportion, especially given the number of people who RP, and then never bother to delete said accounts, as I have done. (All of my old ones still exist, if only for posterity's sake.)
