Where I said I never got into ring slings?

Well, at the ripe age of 16 months, the baby is being carried in a ring sling again - and I love it. (Mostly.)

I was sick of the "up down up down" stage, which is very inconvenient when you have to tie and untie the child every time (I can pre-tie a few different ways with my wrap, but for some reason I can't pop them out without completely losing track of what I was doing!), so I bought one from the same not-well-known person as before, Wallypop. (I got the purple and blue one.)

I was right - the lack of padding does make a difference. It's much easier without the bulk, and more comfortable as well. I put it over the kiddo and go.

And the baby loves it too. She was going through a stage where it was okay to hold her, but not to wear her, because while she was happy to be up, being tied took just too long. But after the first few tries of tricking her into being worn, she's realized that this is a lot faster going in AND out, so she's happier. She's even happier with her old, tied carriers nowadays!

(Interruption - I have a butterfly on my face. Elise wanted me to tell you this.)

I *do* have some problems keeping it off my neck (pulling the tail out instead of down to tighten it seems to help), and, while threading the sling is no issue, it does seem to get twisted after using more than it ought (this is probably my fault instead of the fault of the sling...?), but these are minor problems, as far as I'm concerned.

So, with that said, I now heartily reccommend that style of carrier, instead of tentatively. On that note, I have an Eva-cdote....

We were at the SICM, playing with Su and one of Ana's new friends, in Great Explorations. This is a part of the museum we hardly see, because it's divided into sections, and it's hard to see the kids all over. One of the sections is the tundra, and it has a dogsled. When you stand on the dogsled, a video in front of the dogsled plays, so you can pretend you're driving it. It's pretty nifty, and most kids love it.

Well, Evangeline is scared of it. I played it for her, and she stood behind me and clung onto my legs. Later, when she wandered too far off, I bumped into it on the way to get her - she burst into sobs and ran back. Honestly, I didn't even *hear* the dogsled until somebody pointed out that I'd bumped into it and started it for three seconds!

Of course, by then she'd decided she didn't want to be anywhere near the tundra and the Very Scary Dogsled, so we moved to the jungle, and I kept a watch on the older ones at the door. Eventually, I coaxed her into the same room as the rest of them, and everything was good... until new kids came in.

As I said, most kids love the dogsled. ON went the video, ON went the waterworks, UP went the baby.

And you know, she stopped crying? Oh, she wasn't happy - she tucked her arms into the sling (instead of out) and hugged me tightly. But she didn't cry, and we could stay in the room long enough to convince the older kids to go somewhere else.

She still didn't agree to go down until we were on the opposite side of the building though. Poor baby. Arms in the whole way and everything.
