We had snow today.
Jan. 18th, 2007 11:57 pmBig, fluffy flakes.
But it didn't stick and it didn't last.
You have no *idea* how depressed that made me. I want my snow. I'm so hoping this is really just an aberrant year.

Date: 2007-01-19 05:25 am (UTC)This isn't good news. Global warming doesn't mean that every spot on the earth gets warmer all the time - it means there's climate change up and down the scale. Some areas might get colder while others get warmer.

Date: 2007-01-19 02:02 pm (UTC)And of course, I'm sure you know that one winter like this does not mean the Earth is doomed. ;-) Last winter, as far as I remember, was pretty standard both on the East Coast and here in NM.

As for last winter, it was somewhat standard - but not as much snow as usual. That made our summer drought a lot worse than usual, because of the lack of snowfall (which is now a few years running). And then we had that summer from hell. I've never heard of a national heatwave before, though I'm sure it's happened.

Lack of snowfall? I remember the last two winters in New Jersey as being particularly snowy, with several good snowfalls each. In fact, I remember most of the winters since I finished college (2000) as being more snow than I'd seen in quite a while, although I don't think it was particularly snowy during '02-'03 (though it was a white Christmas that year).

I think the average December temperatures from 2000-2005. I'm not entirely sure, since the caption (and article) are in German. I believe the darkest red and darkest blue represent +/-10°c.

Date: 2007-01-19 11:23 pm (UTC)As I said to someone yesterday, if I liked this weather, I'd have stayed in New Jersey. Where at least they clear the @#$*!@ roads when it snows.
