Why Connie doesn't have ID
Nov. 7th, 2006 07:54 pmI don't have all the points of identification needed to get a state ID. Most alarmingly, I have been having trouble getting my birth certificate - we believe it got flooded in Katrina. However, even with that, I wouldn't have all the points of identification needed to get a state ID. No pay stubs, no bills, nothing. I never even technically received my high school diploma. I graduated from high school, believe me, I remember - but I didn't bother to show up the next day to pick up my diploma, and it never came in the mail. Our mail delivery sucks out here, so I didn't think much about it.
It is actually easier for me to renew my passport than it would be for me to get a non-drivers license. In order to renew my passport, all I need is to bring in an old passport, and somebody with a valid ID to vouch for my identity.
My old passport is from childhood - it should still work for these purposes, but it makes the need to bring in another person all the more pressing.
None of my close relatives currently has a valid ID.
In order for me to get an ID, my mom or my sister first must take a day off of work to get their ID. Then they need to take another day off to go with me to get my ID - and towing two children along, it may be better to have a third person take off of work to watch the kids.
This is a huge production, and we've all been dragging out feet about it.
And that's why I have no ID at the moment.
