Happy birthday, honey!

Yup, she's hit the big oh-one. One year today. Wheee!

I made a carrot cake, and was quite proud at how it rose up, but now I'm uncertain as to whether or not it'll taste good. Here's hoping!

This is where Evangeline is right now.

She's been walking a month now.
She'll snuggle right up and nap on my back sometimes, instead of *always* fussing and fighting.

She can say "uh-oh" and "Ana" (not ananana!) and "Muhmuhmuh" which I think means "I want something but don't want to cry yet."

She can sign "all done" and "milk", but she seems to think "milk" means "food! of any sort!"

She's off the bottle during the day, but of course still nursing.

She knows that "bye-bye" means "I should wave now", and she understands "no" and "come here" and "give please" and "put that in" and, oh, lots of other words that aren't directions. Things like ball and book and head.

She loves to pull things over and behind her head.

She loves to take empty cups and "drink" from them, or actually drink things from real cups and bottles, with help (or straws).

She loves her sister, and Ana loves her. This much is plain to see.

She thinks it's fun to wander off from me, because I used to pick her up and flip her over. I've wised up, now I just take her hand and walk her back.

I do her hair most days, usually in two pigtails, unless I'm really bored.

She knows that shoes go on feet, and keeps trying to put shoes on *her* feet.

She's big on coming up, climbing on my lap, and cuddling, or else playing while near enough to me to lean against me if she wants.

She can kinda point at things, I just started seeing that today. Don't know if I saw what I think I saw, anyway.

She throws real tantrums now.

She can eat with a spoon sometimes, all by herself. I caught her at this today, quite by accident :)

She can stack two or three blocks, and then knock them over. This is funny!

She can scribble, a little. Mostly she prefers to take the crayons out, put them back, out, in, out, in, out - and into the mouth! Yay! Fun! (For her, that is....)

She can crawl up stairs, crawl down a single step, and climb onto chairs and other relatively high things.

She likes to dance, either sitting on the floor or on my back. Dancing means rocking and clapping. She can do this to a rhythm.

She still appears to have a dairy intolerance, there's no real hope of it going away anytime soon.

She likes to talk to me when we're traveling. I look at her using a mirror :) Ana finds that funny.

She's brave, willing to do things other babies her age aren't, like sit inside the parachute while it's going around.

She loves popping bubbles.

Here's another random page of where she is. This site is off a bit - I recall that the normal range for walking was 9 - 18 months, not 11 - 14!

Might it be based on a different definition of "normal range"? For example, perhaps 80% of babies walk between 11-14 months, and 95% between 9-18.

I just wanted to say, I love the dual-meaning of your icon...

Thanks. Wish I could remember where it's from. I mean, I know it's from [livejournal.com profile] bookicons and I only take icons from books I've read, but somehow I forgot to note the source of that one down and now I can't remember. :-(

[livejournal.com profile] book_icons I mean. Which I seem to have managed to un-join at some point. I shall have to go re-join.

What's annoying is, if you want to look on the web and find out what is TRULY normal for a kid the age yours is, good luck! I had to go through milestone charts for 3 yr olds to get ideas of things to write for Greg's 2 yr list because the 24 mo old one was pretty lame. Stack 4 blocks, name an object, 50 word vocab, etc.

It's from The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde.

Thanks! As soon as you said that, I remembered Cecily saying it.

I love your icon, too. Manage if I ask where you got it or how you made it? I've been trying to experiment with turning photos into icons like that, but maybe I'm going about it wrong.

I don't think it was Cecily. IIRC it was her nurse/teacher who said it after telling Cecily that she wrote a book when she was younger and Cecily said, "I hope it did not end happily."

The icon was made by Nitrozac (http://www.geekculture.com/joyoftech/index.html). I don't know exactly how she does it, but I know she works from photos. I got it because she and Snaggy put me in one of their comics when I was pregnant.

Right. Well, I was picturing the scene, so I got the characters right, just not who said what. *g*
