The baby is a toddler now. I guess this means I have to start refering to her by name now, instead of "Baby".
So she and Ana have been walking hand in hand a lot recently. They did that on Friday during the program, and it was so cool to me - the baby was grinning up a storm as Ana led her around the room, occasionally sparing a second to giggle at me, but mostly looking up at her sister. I believe I've located Evangeline's favorite person.
And Ana's no different! Heaven forbid I pick the baby up and tie her to me before the program actually ends... "I WANNA SIT NEXT TO EVANGELINE FOR THE STORY, CONNIE!"
It's amazing.

It's good when, say, I futily tell the baby to "share the disputed toy" (and mentally sigh over the fact that I'll have to make the baby cry to get Ana to stop whining, nevermind who's in the right) - but Ana pipes up, drama forgotten "No, Connie, she doesn't understand. It's okay, she can play with it, I can use this toy instead."
It's good when Ana goes running around the house, prouder than any mom, announcing to all and sundry that "Evangeline is walking! She doesn't need help!" (or drawing, or clapping, or dancing around on my back).
It's fantastic when Ana deputizes herself as the baby's protector, and keeps me apprised of every attempt to sneak non-food into her mouth. That rocks.
It's not so great when she wakes the baby up because "I just want to see her". It's not so great when she nearly makes me fall because she's trying to climb up on me to see her sister. It's not so great when younger friends of hers get basically abandoned because now she has her sister to play "big sister" with, instead of these stand-ins. (One of those friends, Zach, really isn't taking the change well. He goes around going "Ana! Ana!" and getting upset when Ana doesn't even notice him. Poor kid.)
