I still have Michele's zoo membership card - I should pass that to my mom now, actually. Hold on.

Okay, back. And they had a lot of fun, and were quite well-behaved (especially compared to some other kids I saw. When you are ~7 and ~5 years old, and your mother finally deigns to notice that you're feeding the rabbit cheez-its and pretzels, the polite thing to do when she asks you "Please, just stop doing that" for 5+ minutes is to outright ignore her rather than acknowledging she said something and then continuing to do it anyway. At least in the first one everybody can pretend you didn't hear a word she said. I'm just sayin'....) and we went to a playground nearby after, which was much larger than I had previously realized.

We also saw Meghan there - she was arriving as I was leaving, and I foolishly went to talk to her. Well, I mean, we were going opposite directions, it wasn't my brightest move ever :) And I was *so* embarrassed.... Meghan, of course, wanted to play with Ana, so she asked nicely "Ana, wanna go see the fish with me?"

And Ana, rude child, says, very nasty....

"NO! I already saw the fishes. YOU GO AWAY! You go to your mommy!" and then stormed off around the door.

Now, normally I'm not a fan of the forced apology, but apparently I feel differently when I'm not the wronged party, because I threatened her until I got a grudginly mumbled "sorry" out of her. Meghan seemed unaware that she'd been snubbed at all, so I left it at that, they said goodbye very nicely, and we went to the playground.

Oh, and Meghan's mom offered us a ride to Meghan's birthday party at the end of the month, which is just about the only way we're (or they're - still not sure which adults are going) going to be able to get there!

But honestly, I could have just died. Totally unacceptable, and to her friend, no less! But she was in a crankyclingy mood all day, and spent a considerable amount of time on my back in the mei-tai. Deniz was very jealous, so she got a ride too, but either I totally messed up putting it on, or she's really much too big. Oh well.

Ana is apparently much more coordinated and fearless than Deniz. She went on both the "little kid" and "big kid" monkeybars entirely unassisted (I mean, I was there, but I didn't touch her or help her or anything), and climbed up this C-shaped ladder while climbing around Deniz (who was frozen) and me (who was trying to get her down), up to the height of my head.

Deniz was impressed. Heck, I was impressed. This kid is scary with no fear. Really.

Ana herself wasn't all that impressed. She was glad she did it "all by herself and didn't need help", but she wasn't inclined to go on and on about it like Deniz was as we left the playground. Ana would benefit from a gymnastics class or a circus class when she gets a bit bigger, that's all I have to say about it.
