Compressed air? If you know someone who has an air compressor with a blower nozzle, that's best, otherwise, you can buy it by the can.

Well, the blades will never look clean until you get in there and wipe them down. But a good stout compressor will easily blast the bulk of it off.

It's growing on the blades in stringy globs like Spanish moss, right? You should see how that works in a smoker's lair -- blech!

Yup, a good compressor will make short work of the accumulated mass (though it will go flying everywhere, so do it outside if possible), but the blades will still look dirty until you wipe them down.

DO NOT use compressed ot canned air. you will probably bow htefans much fastr than theyare rated for which drasticly reduces their lifespan. Using a fine paintbrush as a duster is what i do.

Maybe in some cases, but if you let them spin, they don't get as clean anyway. So I always use something to block the blades while blasting -- pencil, wooden dowell, coat hanger -- anything.
