I don't understand how a parent could do that to their child, no matter what the situation. People are honestly terrifying sometimes.

yeah. maybe if this was a thousand years ago, when parents might've left a baby in the jungle to die for any number of reasons. but this is TODAY...in the USA...it's scary that some people don't seem to have evolved at all.

what i don't understand is if these parents REALLY can't handle living with and caring for their child, why don't they march up to the police station or psychiatric ward or where ever and say, "damn it, when i say i want to KILL her, i really mean it! take her, quick." it makes me feel like these parents must have something really wrong with them mentally, except i find it hard to believe that all these mentally imbalanced people are parents to autistic children--it's too coincidental.

Well, what you're expected to believe is that caring for a disabled child (or adult) is so very tiring that it's inevitable that one would just snap and kill them.

You're also supposed to believe that being disabled is so bad that a disabled person may well be better off dead.

What I believe is that this is nonsense. Yes, people need support. Yes, lack of support is a problem. But there's no excuse for homicide.

No! See, the word "hate" is cruel. You know, the real victims are the parents. They had these deformed damaged broken difficult children and NOBODY EVER HELPED THEM IN ANY WAY!

So of course, the kids had to go. Naturally. I'm sure those children are smiling from Heaven, thanking their parents for having the strength to do the right thing. It was, after all, and act of love. We all know that helping a child hurts us more than it hurts them, and, no doubt, this counts.

I'm still baffled that anyone could do that to a child. To ANY human being, really, but especially to a child.

There was a case last year. Got posted about on feminist. Some guy killed his disabled kid under spurious claims that he was "getting worse" (the condition he had wasn't the sort of thing that deteriorates), and his wife was going "NO, that's absurd", and he got a three-year-sentence - suspended. So he never served time.

And I made a comment in the entry about how it sickens me that people kill their kids and get away with murder, literally get away with murder....

Only to have somebody snittily reply that they didn't think that he got away with murder. He got sentenced, didn't he? He went on trial, didn't he?

Three years, that he doesn't even have to serve. That's not a sentence, that's a joke, and not a very funny one either.

Because to some people, that's how the world is. They believe it. Oh, they might not say so, not in so many words (though others will say so, and that's worse), but they really believe it. If they didn't, people wouldn't get away with murder like they do.

It's disgusting. Some poor scared pregnant teen does the right thing and leaves her baby at the hospital, and they track her down to arrest her and sentence her. But if the kid is disabled, they can be killed straight off and nobody gets punished in any way.
