Here I am, in one of the HUGE train stations, when I see a dad walking by with his two sons - one about six, the other one sleeping in a stroller.
And the dad is telling his kid all about this train station, and how they'll mark it on their map when they get home. "And then next week, we'll visit Grand Central. I'll tell you all about it. I know about all the trains - I've been to every station."
Older kid clearly thinks his dad is the greatest, and, honestly, I can't disagree. Tell me that isn't a conversation you've all longed to have with your fathers!
So, uh, Happy Father's Day to all you fathers out there.

Date: 2006-06-19 11:07 am (UTC)Honestly? No. Because as anyone who's met my father will know, it's the sort of conversation I've had on a regular basis throughout my entire life. There's no need to long for what is freely available :0D On the other hand, it does mean I have a level of train knowledge/understanding that leads to even adults to declaim me as sad. It's not my fault - it's picked up through osmosis!
Actual, genuine experience:
I was sitting in the study one evening when my father entered to find something to read before he went to bed. "Ooh, signal box diagrams" he exclaimed excitedly, "I haven't had those in a while." And thus he went off to bed with his book of signal box diagrams in hand.
I adore my father, but sometimes I do wish for a paternity test ;0)
