I used to love the Statue of Liberty as a kid...

I'd randomly pose around the house clutching a red crayon (or a flashlight) and a book. I dressed up like her for Halloween one year. I had several little figurines floating around the house.

Did you know the full name of that statue is Liberty Enlightens the World with her Torch? Yeah. Nifty, right?

There are people who pay good money to come to the city to see the Statue of Liberty. And at the same time, I can see her just by walking to the ferry and getting a ride across the bay.

Lots of people who ride the boat just ignore the Statue, because it's no big deal. Or they notice it only for the purpose of marking time - we've passed it, now we can call people (there's a little blackout zone for cell phones right as you pass the SoL), now we can get ready to get off the boat.

Ana's not one of those people. I've taken to riding on the tourist side when with her, because her reaction is so over-the-top, it's great - "LOOK! WHAT'S THAT???? That's statueli_mumblemumbleeee! OH! Where's statue? THERE IT IS! LOOK! SHE HAS STAR!"

Sunday, she added a new word to her vocabulary: crown.

Ana: Connie! She has star! And... and... *runs to bench, puts down camera and bear* and like this! *starts drawing outline of crown on her head*
Me: Yeah, her crown.
Ana: NO! THIS! *keeps drawing in the air*
Me: Crown. That's called a crown.
Ana: Yeah, her cwown.

I love how she does that, pantomimes words she doesn't know.

I ended up taking a tourist picture of her staring out the window at the statue. Let's hope it comes out all right....

She positively *is*. When she's well, that is - past few days... not so much. And with everyone else sick too, oy. I actually didn't go in today, I called Jenn and stayed home sick, because I could barely think I was that tired and all.
