And, upon hearing that the supreme court justices aren't elected and serve for life, this girl starts complaining about "how can that be, that's so unconstitutional".

...

WTF! It's in the constitution! Therefore, it's constitutional. Pretty basic, I mean...

She seemed to think the word means something like "undemocratic" but even if that were the case:

1. The lack of a term limit is not undemocratic. Sorry, ducky, that's not what democracy means.
2. The justices are nominated and confirmed by the people we choose to make our laws for us. If it's not democratic for them to do that, how is it fair for them to make our laws? Am I missing something?
3. Besides, even if 1 and 2 make it undemocratic (and I'm not saying they don't)... THAT'S THE WAY IT WAS DESIGNED! The justices were supposed to be out of the way of politics. They can't do that if they have to keep being re-elected. I know, I know, you didn't realize that. It's okay. We've only been going over it for the past two weeks....

On another class-related note, my latin studies are helping me out a lot in Art History. Last week, I interrupted my professor's explanation of the early days of the empire when she mentioned I, Claudius to tell her that the classic club has been screening that weekly. Today, I defined the difference between the Parthenon and the Pantheon, and also translated the words on the Pantheon. That was an amusing diversion.
