Remember that article I posted earlier? Well, in a fit of madness, I found some other posts on it, using google.

Including this lovely comment....

If the business doesn't want children (and things that are associated with children like crying, things getting touched, snot) then why don't they just put up a sign stating "No Children Allowed" and cut through all the cutesie BS.

Snot? Ew! I don't want any kid's snot anywhere other than in their nose, in their tissue, or in their mouth (hey, it'll end up there anyway....)

If your kid is so sick they're getting snot anywhere other than those approved places (and maybe their sleeve, I know, kids wipe their noses that way....), they need to be at home getting better instead of making the rest of us immediately ill.

Seriously, I'm tolerant of a lot of things. Changing a diaper in public? So long as it doesn't smell, doesn't get on anything, and goes in the trash, I'm fine. I'd rather not, but I know things happen. Crying on public transportation? Okay, you kinda have to be there, it's not like you decided on a whim to just hang out on busses and trains (given that I once spent an entire trans-atlantic flight screaming, I figure I have to pay my dues to society by not whining when other children do similar).

But once children or adults start dropping their messes where I can run into them, again, I say, EW.

Edit: Yes, I exaggerated the bus story for their consumption - don't tell, will you? I almost had to do it anyway. I was so miffed, getting on a bus with a child already crying.

Hah, someone responded VERY favorably to you. :-)

I shan't post anything because I'm one of the "ACK! YOUR CHILD IS HURING MY EARS! PLEAAASE MAKE IT STOP!" kinds.

Like in my "political views" open post: well-behaved children are wonderful delights; shriekers and bratty hellions are NOT.

If they want a place to take their kids for a meal, TAKE them then to someplace like McDonald's. They shouldn't ruin it for other patrons just because THEY feel entitled and have become deaf to their own kids' misbehavior. Most of the time, the parents directly reflect what their children are like...self-entitlement and disrespect for others versus knowing when is a good time to play and when is a good time to behave in a civilized fashion so as not to blatantly irritate others.

I would choose a 'no kids' cafe over a 'kid friendly' one each time. Its not so much the behaviour of some of them, though that can be really annoying, but I just remember one time I was eating somewhere and this toddler was sitting there with rivers of snot coming out of its nose. It really made me feel ill and I couldn't finish my food. Ever since that I kinda prefer to go places where there aren't kids.

Places that didn't allow minors or said no kids always pissed me off as a child. I knew how to behave and didn't cause problems in a fine restaurant and whatnot, and I didn't like being excluded because other children caused problems. So, I'm all for - kids are welcome if and only if they behave. It lets the well-behaved kids enjoy the quiet, nice environment too. And even as a child, I had no desire to listen to other kids screaming, whining, or being utterly disgusting.

I'm an "ACK YOUR KID IS HURTING MY EARS" kind of person too! Lately it feels like the world has been taken over by bratty shriekers!

Me neither. I remember some friends of my parents wanted to take us to this restaurnat called the Locust Inn when I was about 10 years old and we were told children weren't allowed. I resented it then and everytime we passed that place from then on I used to boo and call it the Locust OUT!!! I was a well-behaved kid who didn't act up in restaurants, but sadly nowadays it seems to be the exception rather than the rule wherever we go. I just don't enjoy eating out anymore because of badly behaved children and clueless parents who let tehir babies "exercise their lungs". Now that I AM grown up, I wish MORE places like the Loucust Inn existed!

What are they seating kids at, if not actual tables?

Ohhhh. Yeah, those. We had them in middle school, though those were actually 3 longish bench-table-thingies pushed together (per row), seating about 15 kids per side. It wasn't so bad because by then we were allowed to sit wherever we wanted.

In grade school we had normal 8 person tables, though they'd always make us fill in the tables as we got in, so if 4 kids wanted to sit together, and there were only 3 seats left at the current table... tough.

I always hated the cafeterias at all of my schools. They were a hot spot for misbehaving (even in high school! I was always appalled at how my classmates behaved in high school).
