I don't feel you were wrong, you weren't nasty or anything. The response I would have given would have been something along the lines of "D'oh, I feel stupid, thanks so much." then go off and read the faqs. I have brain dead moments myself and post stupid things, but going on the defensive when the goof is pointed out makes one go from seeming a little spacey or slow to puposefully stupid.
