Old graveyards to me both as a child and now are like time machines. I could look at that headstone and imagine the family gathered around it. I would look for family groupings. There were dates that lasted a long time, and dates that were very short. There's something very tangible and real about graveyards. I didn't find them morbid; I found them to be a way to connect imaginatively with the past.
