I'm trying to view the Friends page of book_icons in my style because I can see more entries at a time that way. But every time I go back, it reverts to the book_icons style. I could just fiddle around with the style, but I don't want to do that until I answer the question: is it possible to view more than the most recent "recent entries" or "friends" page of a journal other than your own in your style?

Yes! You can view all styleable pages in your own style by continuing to add style=mine to it. Or, to put it the other way, add &skip=[number] to the friends page URL to skip back: for example, http://www.livejournal.com/users/book_icons/friends/?style=mine&skip=50

There's no LJ-given automatic way to append ?style=mine; however, you might be able to modify your style to automatically do that (though it will probably also do it for people looking at your journal (unless you make it conditional on 'conuly' not being the username, perhaps? that'd be interesting to investigate)). There's also a recent firefox extension trick explained in lj_nifty that'll allow you to automatically add ?style=mine to URLs, but that might be more wide-ranging than you want.
