I'm wandering around LiveJournal looking for bookish icons so that I can ask the creators to crosspost to [livejournal.com profile] book_icons and thus expand our repetoire. Not that we need new posters so much, but. (Incidentally, if you can think of any authors with large fan bases whom I may have missed, please tell me)

And that's how I found this. The person who started that thread shouldn't've picked the fight, but.... *stares*

It's like seeing Jenna in twenty years. Blech.

(Jenna being the obnoxious conservative bint in my Soc class last year who felt that it was fine for her to be on welfare because she's a white woman....)

Better for her to supervise her children than to be screaming for Sesame Street to change. A parent that thinks of which values they want to pass to their children.

Maybe you don't like them, but I see a pretty involved mother there, which is way better than the mother who dumps her kid in front of Sesame Street because it is educational and thinks her job is done.

And I think the Spanish on Sesame Street is a waste, not enough to really learn anything.

I do wish my children had more language options in school, too. But now they have none. I was happier when my daughter had ASL and Spanish, although I would have preferred a choice for languages. Unfortunately, I can't afford private school and what little language we teach her isn't enough.

We're just a bunch of damn Commies, apparently. God forbid we teach our kids to share!

Just... so many points at which my jaw dropped, man. So many.

Holy premenstrual Mother of God on a muffin.

I'm not going to fit a mold - no one does. I am against illegal immigration, contraception, pre-marital sex, homosexuality, and abortion. I sound like a hard-core Christian, eh? I grow, dry and smoke my own pot. I allow my kids to fight in the playground (not pick fights, but defend themselves in fights). I give my kids sips of beer and scotch (but not at the same time) when they ask (in moderation, of course). Doesn't sound too Christian, eh?

No, it sounds like you're a closed-minded cow who doesn't even have an excuse for being one. Congrats!

It was more than Spanish that bothered her, and because of those issues, her children are supervised when watching Sesame Street. If she thinks it's wrong, then fine. As long as she isn't trying to stop my kids from watching it, that's ok.

Better that than the people who are managing to keep my kids from watching that episode of Arthur with the lesbian parents. THOSE parents bother me more.

Turn off the TV or sit with your kids and tell them why you think it is wrong -- but don't do my job for me. I'll make the decision if I want my kids to watch that episode!

*blinks* So Sesame Street is evil but growing your own pot is good. And of course homosexuality is sin. *nods* Gotcha.

I was rather amused to find that my own morals are actually the exact opposite.

It's not. Early exposure, even in low doses, can teach the child the sounds of the language. Without that, later exposure will pretty much at best result in a fluent speaker marked with an accent for life. This gives the child a better chance of learning the language later and being able to pronounce it properly.

I just liked the "America belongs to Americans"... uh, why? Because a bunch of Europeans pretty much succeeded in genocide... that gives us some moral claim to the land and to keep others out? Or does it only do so if they don't successfully kill us off?

She reeks of troll. Or maybe I'm just trying to blot out the possibility that she is serious...

Nope, I think she is a troll/attention whore. I don't think she's real.

Pot is acceptable because God made it.

Beer is acceptable because God made yeast.

By the reasoning, isn't *everything* acceptable because if you take it back to its basic componants, God made them. But no, manmade drugs are sinful (like, erm... alcohol?)

I really love the bit where America belongs to Americans, not the world. And even better since it's surrounded by sentences pointing out that her own parents were immigrants.

yeah, since when did giving your kids alcohol and growing pot in their presence become ok and a Spanish word of the day become not ok?

I have no clue, but this woman her morals are all upside down if you ask me.

Heh. Good to know that alcohol is better for kids than the example of a loving relationship, innit?

...

I think that woman just broke my brain.

Please tell me she's a troll. Please?

So, let me see here. Helping people up is communist and everyone knows that communism has absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. You can easily buy Tylenol in any drug store in the country, but man-made painkillers are morally wrong. Pot, on the other hand, despite being illegal, was made by God and I should really be using that for cramps. Homosexuality is evil and immigration is ruining this country (even if you're the child of immigrants). The Puritans had the right idea.

I'd ask what this woman was smoking, but she already told us. I think she's doing something else besides the pot, though because DAMN.

Just....wow.

In Canada, Sesame Street (or, actually Sesame Park now; when I was growing up it was Sesame Street) teaches French words and phrases. Of course, that could be different because Canada actually is a bilingual country. But pretending that lesbian couples and Spanish-speaking people don't exist is not going to stop them from existing.
