Personally, I think the excerpts make the point nicely in the revised version.

and

I’d probably seek out the station where we’re most likely to be winning the war. Where I can find a better economy. Maybe some weapons of mass destruction.

do a very good job, IMO, of implying Fox News without coming right out and saying it. Less gutsy than the original versions, yes. But also sneakier. (Like the way Rush Limbaugh associated Ruby Ridge with Waco and thus with Clinton, or the adsinistration associated Iraq with 9/11, only more reality-based.)
