Maybe I wasn't clear....
Feb. 13th, 2005 12:27 pmI don't ever want to see that stupid lj friends collage ever again.
For most people, that thing is friggin' huge! And it takes up a ton of space, and I can't even just block the images because I'd be blocking my very own user picture.
If I *ever* meet the people who made that, I'll kill them for not including an obligatory lj-cut with the code for that damn thing. *screams*
Please, for the love of God, cut images.

Date: 2005-02-13 02:42 pm (UTC)I love the lj-cut function, use it for almost every post, and I really wish other people would use it for all memes, quizzes, images, and posts longer than a single paragraph. However, I've resigned myself to the fact that however much I may wish it, they're not gonna do it. I've unfriended a few people in the past for posting too much boring uncut drivel, but most of the people on my list write stuff that I do want to keep reading, so... *shrugs*

Date: 2005-02-13 02:59 pm (UTC)As I see it, these are your options:
1. You can use image placeholders.
2. You can unfriend everyone on your Friends List who doesn't use lj-cuts.
3. You can resign yourself to the fact that a lot of people aren't going to use lj-cuts and that therefore your computer is going to be screwed up every time someone posts something like that dumb collage without a cut.
4. You can continue being furious and posting rants (probably to very little effect) about the fact that a lot of people aren't going to use lj-cuts and that therefore your computer is going to be screwed up every time someone posts something like that dumb collage without a cut.
... I'd say this comes under the heading of "serenity to accept what you cannot change, courage to change what you can, and wisdom to know the difference." Unfortunate as it may be, most people who are willing to use lj-cuts already use them, and ranting at the people who don't isn't likely to make them become willing to use them.
What would be very cool is if Lj introduced a function whereby one could choose to have all posts over a selected number of bytes cut automatically, and it might be worthwhile to get people to write and ask for that. That's a possible option for the future, however; not one for right now.
