Given that Trump's billionaire buddies bought the US version of it, I expected no less. However, there is a bit of irony here: we can already assume that China already does all this on its international TikTok without including it in the TOS (as do most if not all online platforms where they can collect such data), while the US Tiktok version is very explicit about it (kind of like the Trump administration is overtly racist and discriminatory while previous ones were a lot more discrete or conveniently agnostic about the institutional racism and discrimination built within their bureaucratic machinery over decades if not centuries).

This hit a week after Eaglet finally, after asking for a while, got permission to get a TikTok account. They heard about it first and was bummed, but insisted we should all delete the app and our accounts. (I hadn't used it, and only gotten it to be their associated parent account, so no big loss for me.)

Loops is Federated and starting to get going, if you want to get in super-early on something starting up and non-corporate.

I admit taht I don't usually expect things to get way, way, worse when a company changes hands, but this seems to be designed to make someone feel good about themselves for having "wrested control" of it from someone else, or something like that.
