Finally saw Zootopia 2!
Dec. 27th, 2025 04:00 pmBefore I say anything, A would like you to know how extremely annoying it is that they played those "Arabian Nights" riffs every time the snake (Barry) appeared, and it would be annoying even if the plot wasn't obviously about gentrification pushing out Black families, and where else do snakes live? Uh, Africa! And also everywhere!
They wouldn't shut up about it, so there we go. They're not wrong.
But also... the plot wraps up pretty neatly, and it's oddly... phlegmatic. Okay, Tundratown is expanding and gobbling up the swamp whole and... nobody is protesting this? The residents of that district are just going to accept their fate, and nobody else knows or cares? That this would go through despite protests, I can believe. That nobody would've protested at all, including the displaced residents, I can't quite believe.
And then they find the original reptile home by turning off the ice in that part of TundraTown and... were there no residents in the expanded TundraTown who now, themselves, need to find new homes? (Well... maybe not? The whole place seemed to be domed in...?)
And the Lynx family is extremely wealthy, so honestly, it's surprising that they couldn't manage to bribe their way into a lesser sentence. If nothing else, they could always have claimed they knew nothing of the ignoble actions of their ancestor, caused enough confusion to wiggle out of anything, but that would've been too real, so it's okay that they didn't do it.
One of the production babies is named Wolf, and we all kinda blinked at that a little.
Judy and Nick are amazing, as always, but a special shout-out to the Ze-BROs and also Barry, who is the best most adorable snake ever.
