The short story is about a magic earpiece that, when found and put in, will warn you that you better take it out.

If ignored, the earpiece will instead guide you to a prosperous and happy life by whispering advice into your ear.

The story ends by revealing that the brains of those using the earpiece atrophy due to the user never making their own decisions.

If anybody knows which story this is, I'm sure that poster would appreciate it.
