I know it’s be undemocratic in this case (oh god how!?) but I still harbor dreams of electoral flips, if only because if we’re all going to hell I’d like to die laughing. And also, that’d be a really good way to get rid of the Electoral College for good.

You don’t need to tell me, I know. I’m more likely to win the lottery, and I even deserve that more.

But man oh man….

It would be nice for an outbreak of conscience to happen, yes. But there are plenty of people sufficiently wedded to the democratic process that they will let it happen, even if they're concerned they may never get the opportunity to do democracy again.

In my ideal world, not only would Kamala Harris have won the Electoral College, but Trump would have won the popular vote, and suddenly there would be millions of Republicans screaming about how unfair and undemocratic the Electoral College is. And some solid-red states (which, like solid-blue states, have no influence in the current system) would join the National Popular Vote Compact, and it might actually go into effect.

Can I go to bed again and wake up in that world instead?

As TPM points out, Trump may actually have a majority of the popular vote, which neither Hillary Clinton nor Al Gore managed. Trump may have won all seven swing states, his party has a majority in the Senate and quite likely the House. He's not unjustified in saying he has a mandate from the people.

Moral of the story: this isn't a political-strategy problem, this isn't a Constitutional problem, it's a cultural problem. The American people really did make this choice, resoundingly.

I wonder if some future civilization will speak of us as we speak of Socrates, so devoted to the rule of law that he cooperated with the state executing him.
