We finally got my mother's phone off the plan

and it only took us two years!

The first year we just weren't ready, and the second we were ready to do it online, but they'd only let us do it via a phone call (probably the phone wasn't paid off) and we weren't ready for that.

But now that line's off, and so is this other random line that we're not sure why it was on there, plus we realized we can save $60 by switching to autopay and paperless billing, so that's quite a lot of cash saved every month.

Ahhh. Canceling my mom's phone line was one of the first things I did after she died. She'd been too sick to use her phone much for the last couple months of her life, anyway. Thinking about it makes me emotional, a little, but at the time, it was just a thing I needed to do before I forgot. Plus, neither dad nor I had much money coming in, and even 30 dollars or whatever it saved us seemed important.

Congratulations on finally making that step.

Part of my phone broke during that time, too, so I ended up actually using my mom's old phone for several months. It was sort of a sweet time to me and a weird problem solving moment.
