Did you know that bluejays can hang upside down to retrieve their peanuts from the peanut feeder!? I did not know that! (I also do not know how to upload video from my iphone to imgur. It's saved in the wrong format, apparently, which is... annoying. I mean, I know this is a fixable problem, and not a tricky one, but ugh. Do I have to resave in another format or can I just go to some other site and avoid the trouble?)

Also, while I was kneeling at the back hall window to get a good view of the bluejay, fucking semi-feral Sebastian suddenly scrambled down the stairs, ran over my foot, and hissed at me, and I was just minding my own business! Annoying animal. But yesterday he started to run away from me when he saw me, but then stopped and came back a few steps and sat down when I put out food for him. (He didn't approach the food until I retreated, of course.) This all reminds me that I really must call and see about setting up a cage to trap and neuter him.

All the jays are really, really smart and really, really strongly motivated to learn new skills by food! They are corvidae, after all!

I love watching them figure something out. Like, I see food in the water. How deep is water? Where do I stand?
