I was speaking to Eva and Jenn today and was suddenly reminded of something

which I had completely forgotten about, but which may cheer you all.

Some time ago, I was in the bathroom at the B&N at Union Square, reading the graffiti in the stall, and I noticed that one person had written something about being trans and wanting to come out.

This was followed by several different people's responses, all very supportive of the first person.

Gosh, thinking about this actually is making me tear up. All the transphobes can kindly drop dead for all I care.

My partner is trans/genderfluid and still gets stares and rude comments/shouts on the subway and in Prospect Park where they work. In NYC, where you'd think people would be better.

Wow. That's really wonderful. I just read an excellent article in the Best Sports Writing 2022, which is a collection of the best from 2021. It has a great article about trans athletes and the sports that are taking steps to be more inclusive. It was wonderful to see that the WNBA has made great strides, including players pronouns in their programs, and making sure the announcers know the proper pronouns.

It's discouraging that only one was cited for having made great strides, but at least it shows that organizations are having to make changes that one group has done it well.

I guarantee you for every trans-person out there, there's ten people who'll be supportive to every one trans bigot.

Anonymity allows people to be themselves truly. Ok, at times that means they're an ass, but it also means that small still voice of good conscience can be heard all that much louder too.

Yeah, well, they don't pay attention to people who simply give them dirty looks. You gotta actually say something to them if you want them to notice, and ugh, even if it's safe to do so it's not fun.

That is prevailing true as well... but it is an improvement over not so long ago when the majority of people would be agreeing with the loud-mouth bigots. the arc of history is bending in the right direction, albeit slowly at times.

There will come a time when the bigots are loudly shouted down as soon as they start up with their nonsense, and who knows, maybe we'll end up with less of them eventually. (there's bound to be some that are only going along with the loudest faction.)
