That snuck up on us!
Looks like it's the Core who wants to conquer everywhere, though again I ask: why? Seriously, why? And if you're made of the best minds of Amphibia... okay, well, first of all that sounds like my personal image of hell, but also: how are you defining this? What metric are you using to measure "best" other than "trivially good at strategy games"? Did anywhere at all along the road look for compassion, wisdom, or, idk, total lack of megalomania?
Also, Andrias, now that he's shed his "aw shucks" nice guy veneer has decided to go full on evil for the evulz. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: threatening your minions and henchfolk with death for failure is not evil, it's just stupid. You're guaranteeing mediocrity and, eventually, disloyalty because nobody is allowed to learn from their mistakes and sooner or later the brighter ones realize that sticking with you is the biggest mistake they can make.
Back on Earth, the gang took the entirely wrong approach. Once it was clear that secretive government agents were after the Plantars it was time to ditch "secrecy" and embrace "openness". Go very public about them, the progress in opening a portal, the fact that they're only trying to get home to stop a war and that they're definitely not overstaying their visa.
Being in the public eye is hard, but you're not likely to get vivisected. Though I suppose there always IS the risk that the US government might decide to send in the armed forces to help you fight an oppressive regime, especially if they guess that war is coming to Earth anyway, like it or not. US military aid is a bit of a mixed bag.
