The NYTimes ran an article on 25 "essential" NYC restaurant dishes

I went to the comments to point out that they inexplicably forgot the North Shore's Sri Lankan nexus in their list of dishes, only to find that somebody had already beat me to it. Four somebodies, in fact, which if you ask me is even more of an honor than being mentioned in the article proper.

None of them, judging by the usernames, appear to be Sri Lankan. Welp, I'm not either. But man, our local Sri Lankan restaurants make good food.

Despite a heavy South Asian population in my area (Silicon Valley), a quick Yelp search failed to find anything identified as a Sri Lankan restaurant. What we do have is a wide variety of Indian restaurants, many specializing in particular regions, and some of those are Kerala or Tamil with the phrase "Sri Lankan" showing up in reviews with an indication that they overlap. I don't know how accurate that may be, and I have little experience with specifically south Indian cuisine.

I remember when my wife and I were in Denver in '12 and we had about two hours between appointments around lunch time. I opened up Yelp on my phone, found an Ethiopian restaurant nearby. It had a huge number of great reviews, and the food definitely earned it! We'd never had their cuisine before and would have it again if we ever found it.
